Sri Raghunath Mandir is found in the Jammu region of Jammu and Kashmir. It was built by Maharaja Gulab Singh and his son Maharaja Ranbir Singh. The place is in the golden colours and seeks the attention of the tourists from the entire country.

As one of the largest Temple complexes of Northern India, it consists of seven shrines. As deciphered from the name itself, it is dedicated to Lord Rama and Hindus often come here to seek blessings.

A significant mosque of Srinagar, Jamia Masjid is a must visit place in the capital city. The place is a testament to the heritage of Kashmir. It was built in the 15th century by Sikandar. The masjid sees thousands of people gathering on fridays offering prayers. It is famous for its large structure and believed to accommodate 33333 people at a time.

There are 370 pillars standing tall and holding the building firm and solid. Some of the things to keep in mind would be to reach here during the first prayer to experience the peace full environment created.

Respect the clothing decorum of the mosque and wear long sleeves clothes with your head covered. 

04. Vaishno Devi

The holy Vaishno Devi Temple is a most-visited place of Jammu region. The temple of Vaishno Devi is a popular pilgrimage site of India. Residing in Trikuta mountains in Jammu, the temple is at a distance of about 12 kilometers from the base town of Katra.

Start the Yatra by 7-8 PM and you will be there at the temple for the auspicious darshan of Mata Rani, early in the mornings. The place has three pindis or stone representations of the Devis.

It is undoubtedly the most popular temple among Hindus in Northern India. If you aren’t physically fit to undertake the trek, you can surely book the ponies, palanquin or helicopter services. Plan the trek in the summer season.

Martand Temple is a beautiful addition to some of the significant religious places in Jammu and Kashmir. It is located in the Anantnag area at a distance of 9 km from the main town. The Martand Sun Temple showcases the rich heritage of Kashmir Valley with its magnificent temple complex. The architectural marble was built in from 725-756 AD.

Architectural style of Various dynasties of ancient India such as Greeks, Roman’s, Guptas, Gandharans can be seen in the making of temples. As you are on your way from Anantnag to Pahalgam or back, you should surely stop here and explore this exemplary piece of art.

Although the temple is not in its original way, the remains still hold historical and spiritual importance. 

06. Amarnath Cave

The Amarnath cave or as it is popularly known as Amarnath Temple is certainly a very popular religious place of the valley. It is located in the Anantnag district of Kashmir.

The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Amarnath Yatra is the most auspicious journey pilgrims often undertake. It takes place from June to August. During the same time, the naturally formed ice lingam is formed at the temple and is the prime attraction there.

Starting from Pahalgam, it is a long trek of about 46 kilometers to Amarnath Caves. You can surely undertake the trek. However, ponies and helicopter services are available as well. It is at an altitude of about 12,760 feet. Acclimatisation is required. 

07. Kheer Bhawani Temple

The Kheer Bhawani temple, one of the most distinctive Hindu sanctuaries, is solely devoted to Ragnya Devi. It is in the Tulmul village of Ganderbal district. You can surely come here to offer your prayers and seek blessings.

People often visit here on their Kashmir trip. Because of the milk and kheer gifts made by worshippers at this temple, it is known as “Kheer Bhawani.”When talking about the best time to visit Kheer Bhawani Temple, there can not be a better time than summer as the place is not very crowded and you can worship the Goddess with total satisfaction.

When visiting the Temple, keep your shoes or slippers outside the complex. The Mela held at Kheer Bhawani temple is wholeheartedly celebrated by locals of the valley.  

08. Charar-i- sharief

Charar-I-Sharif features the tomb of renowned Sufi Saint, Sheikh Noor-ud-din Noorani. It is located in the Budgam district of Kashmir valley. One of the most sacred shrines and religious places in Kashmir, people often come here to offer prayers.

The shrine contains lush gardens and walking trails for strolls. The shrine is often considered a quintessential part of any religious tour especially among Muslims.

Before visiting the Shrine, make sure you are dressed modestly. Cover your head with a scarf and leave your footwear behind before making an entry in the Dargah. Follow the rules and regulations. Don’t disrespect the faith and belief of locals in any way. 

09. Pathar Mosque

Pathar Mosque lies in the Old Srinagar of Jammu and Kashmir. It is often considered as one of the most famous religious places in Jammu and Kashmir. It is found on the banks of Jhelum river.

To its opposite, you can see the shrine of Khanqah-e-Moula. The religiously significant Masjid was constructed by Noor Jahan in the Mughal Era. As expected, the complex was built in the style of Mughal Architecture and is one of the best examples of the same.

As you make it a part of your religious tour in the valley, explore its lush garden as well. The prime attraction of the Mosque are the nine Mehraabs. There’s no entry fee here and you can visit the place from 9 AM to 9 PM. It is often crowded on Fridays. Make your plans on weekends for a less congested trip.

10. Hazratbal Shrine

Explore the sacred Hazratbal Shrine located in Srinagar. It is one of the places to visit in the city for a calming experience. The Shrine is considered very holy in Islam religion and an immense number of pilgrims come here every year.

It was constructed in the Mughal period by Shah Jahan and apparently stores a strand of Prophet Mohammed’s beard. The complex of red sandstone and white marble is a treat to the eyes.

People from every religion visit this place as it holds great significance. When visiting the Hazratbal Shrine, keep a scarf to cover your head and leave your slippers or shoes behind before entering the building.
