Day 1: Chandigarh to Shimla + Local Sightseeing

Distance: Approx. 115 km
Drive Time: 3.5–4.5 hours

The journey begins as you drive from the structured plains of Chandigarh to the serene hills of Shimla. The road gradually ascends through lush forests, winding around pine-covered hills and offering spectacular valley views. Upon arrival in Shimla, the colonial heritage of the hill station is immediately evident in its architecture and atmosphere. 

You can explore the historic Ridge, visit the majestic Christ Church, and stroll along Mall Road, bustling with shops and local eateries. A trip to Jakhoo Temple, perched atop the highest point in Shimla, offers panoramic views and spiritual calm.

Today’s journey is long but rewarding as you head from Shimla to Manali with key stops at Kullu and Manikaran. The drive runs through the scenic valleys of Himachal, with the Beas River accompanying you for much of the way. Your first stop is Kullu, where you can browse colorful handicrafts and perhaps try river rafting. 

Further along, a detour to Manikaran introduces you to a sacred valley known for its natural hot springs and the spiritual presence of both a Sikh Gurudwara and Hindu temples. The blend of natural and cultural significance here is unforgettable. Continuing onward, you reach Manali by evening, where snow-capped peaks and cool breezes offer a welcome retreat.

As you travel deeper into the Dhauladhar foothills, the vibe becomes increasingly peaceful and contemplative. En route, you may pass small villages and forested stretches that give a glimpse into local life in the hills. 

Upon arriving in Dharamshala, the cooler air and distant sound of prayer flags fluttering in the wind welcome you. The temple’s peaceful environment and views of the surrounding mountains make it a meditative experience.
