A day trip to Rohtang Pass follows, offering spectacular views of snow-capped peaks and opportunities for snow activities. On the final day, enjoy local sightseeing in Manali, visiting iconic spots like Hadimba Temple and the Tibetan Monastery, before concluding your trip with a drive back to Chandigarh.

Day 1: Chandigarh to Shimla + Local Sightseeing

Distance: Approx. 115 km
Drive Time: 3.5–4.5 hours

The journey begins as you leave behind the urban landscape of Chandigarh and ascend toward the Queen of Hills—Shimla. The drive is scenic, winding through forested hills, pine trees, and quaint villages, offering a refreshing change in air and atmosphere. Upon reaching Shimla, the charm of the colonial-era town captivates immediately. 

You can explore The Ridge, a bustling promenade with stunning views of the surrounding mountains, and visit the historic Christ Church. The bustling Mall Road invites you to shop, sip on local tea, or simply enjoy people-watching. For panoramic city views, you might hike or take a short drive to Jakhoo Temple, set atop the highest hill. 

The cool breeze, old-world charm, and cultural vibrancy make Shimla a perfect welcome to the mountains.

Drive Time: 45 minutes each way

Today is reserved for a delightful day trip to Kufri, a quaint hill station nestled amidst tall deodar trees and snow-capped peaks. The short but scenic drive leads you to this peaceful destination, often blanketed in snow during the winter months. 

Kufri is well-known for its adventure activities, including skiing, horse riding, and tobogganing, and offers gorgeous hiking trails through dense forest. Start your day early for the drive from Shimla to Manali—a long, yet beautiful journey through Himachal’s changing landscapes. The road gradually descends from Shimla before rising again through the Beas River Valley. En route, make a stop at Kullu, known for its woolen markets and river rafting opportunities. 

The scenic beauty here is a blend of lush hills and lively town culture. Continue to Manikaran, a revered pilgrimage site where natural hot springs, a gurdwara, and ancient temples coexist peacefully. Pilgrims and travelers alike are drawn to the spiritual energy and healing waters of this sacred valley. After this enriching detour, continue your drive to Manali, where pine forests, gushing rivers, and majestic mountain peaks welcome you.

Rohtang Pass promises one of the most breathtaking day trips in all of Himachal. As you ascend the winding road from Manali, the landscape dramatically transforms—from green valleys to rugged, snow-clad mountain terrain. 

Rohtang sits at over 13,000 feet and is one of the highest accessible passes in the region. It offers panoramic views of glaciers, jagged peaks, and the start of the Lahaul and Spiti valleys. Depending on the season, you can enjoy snow activities like sledding, skiing, or simply playing in thick white powder. On the way, admire Rahala Falls and the Beas Kund.

Drive Time: 8–9 hours

By noon, begin your drive back to Chandigarh.
