Day 5: Turtuk Day Tour
After breakfast drive to the famous Turtuk Valley. This valley was first thrown open for tourists in 2010. The entire region was under Pakistan’s control until 1971 when India gained control during the war of 1971. This is the culturally rich place of Balti settlements and it has the best of the landscape.
Here you will see the border between India and Pakistan. The outmost village here is the Thang village which connects to Pakistan. You can see from here Pakistan army posts and the village across the border. It is here that the Shyok River which you have seen and will see in the Nubra region, enters Pakistan and disappears.
Cliffhangers high recommendation is to taste the local food here and take a walk through old Turturk village which has Balti Heritage House – a mini museum to preserve the Balti culture and architecture. People are warm here and welcome you with a smile.
Return to Nubra.
Night stay at Nubra Valley.
Day 6: Explore Pangong Lake
We will start the day with a beautiful drive along the Shyok River. From the Agyam bridge, we will take the left route which leads us to the villages of Shyok and Durbuk. After Durbuk, take a left towards Tangtse and follow the traditional route. Drive further and we will reach the breathtaking Pangong Lake – one of the largest naturally formed brackish lakes in the Himalayas. This entire drive is completely rewarding.
Pangong Lake is at 14000 ft height and more than half of the lake is within China. As you face the lake, the right side is China. Only one-third part of the lake lies in India. Explore this majestic lake and if you are lucky you might see some rare wildlife. Once here, visit the famous 3 Idiot shooting point, and try local food at any of the small restaurants around the Lakeshore. Later during free time enjoy the colour-changing lake as the sun sets on the lake. Wake up early morning to experience the gorgeous view of the sunrise.
