Tatakooti Peak Expedition

Tatakooti Peak is one of the highest peaks in Kashmir’s Pir Panjal Region standing at an altitude of 4760m. This is the most technical peak here in Kashmir and quite safe. The peak has an approach from the Doodhpathri valley of Kashmir, and the base camp is just at Dhmail lying below the towering peaks of Pir Panjal. The summit push is a complete 1200m around ascend over the rocky terrain. The last 350m of the peak is entirely technical involving roping etc.

At the summit, you get a view of some of the fantastic peaks in the surroundings that include Nun Kun, Nanga Parbat, Kolahoi, Harmukh, Sirbal, etc. This peak is also called Tatakuti Peak. It gives you a panoramic view of Jammu on one side and Kashmir on the other. The climb is to the North face of the peak.

Tatakooti peak trek expedition draws now lot of climbers both beginners and seasoned climbers to attempt its summit. The thrill of summiting this peak is the reward of panoramas and the technical ascent that one has to undergo to reach the top of the peak.

Tatakooti Peak Expedition Itinerary

Day 1: Srinagar to Doodhpathri

  • Altitude: 2700m

Day 2: Doodhpathri to Diskal

  • Altitude: 2700 m to 3200 m
  • Time taken: 4 hours
  • Distance: 9km

Day 3: Diskal to AshtarValley

  • Altitude: 3200 m to 3500 m
  • Time taken: 5 hours
  • Distance: 8km

 Day 4: Ashtar Valley to Dhumail Base Camp

  • Altitude: 3500m to 3600m
  • Time taken: 3 hours

Day 5: Summit

  • Altitude: 4760 m Peak Altitude
  • Time taken: Full Day

Day 6: Buffer Day

Day 7: Dhumail to Diskal

  • Altitude: 3600 m 3200 m
  • Time taken: 6 hours

Day 8: Diskal to Doodhpathri to Sringar.

  • Altitude: 3200m to 2700m
  • Time taken: 2 hours + 3.5 hours drive
