Leh Ladakh itinerary

Leh Arrival: The first day of the trip is your arrival in the Leh city, acclimatisation, and light stroll in the neighborhood. 

The Capital City of Leh has the only operational airport of Ladakh, Kushok Bakula Rimpochee International Airport. As you reach the airport, you will be picked by a local driver. From the airport, the main city lies at a distance of just 2.5 kilometres. 

As you reach your hotel, enjoy Lunch and utilise the afternoon to acclimatize and relax. 

In the evening, you can go out in the Leh market and blend in with the atmosphere. There are some popular eateries and restaurants in the main city centre. Here snack on momos(steamed dumplings), fritters and butter tea.

By night, come back to the hotel and after having a hearty breakfast, call it a day. You have a lot of walking to do on the second day. It is highly suggested to get as rest as possible.

Leh Sightseeing: The Ladakh itinerary 5 days starts with a thorough sightseeing of Leh city. Well, on the second day, we will do exactly that. 

Once you are ready and done with your breakfast, the cab will pick you up from your hotel doorsteps.

The first stop would be the Leh Palace, located at a distance of only 2 kilometres from the main city. The ancient palace is a visual treat. Moving further, at a distance of about 5 kilometres from the city centre, lies the marvelous Shanti Stupa. The white marble dome aims for peace and prosperity to the world. As you climb the stairs and reach the main complex, a panoramic view of the entire city awaits you. 

It’s time to venture a bit far from the city and explore the local tourist spots around. Drive to the Magnetic Hills. On your way, do take a halt at the Gurudwara Pathar Sahib. Here, enjoy the delicious Langer, arranged by the Gurudwara authorities. Visit the Hall of Fame to celebrate the sacrifices of the martyrs. 

By evening, return back to your hotel. The second day of the Leh Ladakh itinerary 5 days was indeed a tiring yet rewarding day. After having dinner, sleep in. 

Night Stay in Leh! 

Nubra Valley: On the third day of the Leh Ladakh itinerary 5 days, drive to the Nubra Valley. 

Nubra Valley lies at a distance of about 150 kilometres from the capital city. The drive takes around 3-4 hours. It is one of the most popular and scenic road trips. While some choose to cover the distance via bikes, others prefer jeep safaris. Cabs and taxis are readily available too. 

Start the drive in the morning by 8AM. You will be driving on one of the world’s highest motorable passes, Khardung La Pass. It is about 40 kilometres from Leh. At the Pass, take a moment and look around at the breathtaking scenery. Enjoy Maggie at the Khardung Cafe and click some pictures. 

Cross the pass and by noon, you will be in Nubra Valley. Visit the Hunder village, which is the centre of sightseeing and different activities. Ride the ATVs, exploring the cold deserts and around. Camel Safaris in the Hunder sand dunes is one of the best activities to do here. 

Visit the Diskit Monastery where you will witness the 32 feet gold statue of Maitreya Buddha. 

In Nubra, you can stay in a homestay at the Hunder village. There are some hotels and guesthouses as well for overnight booking. 

Night stay in Nubra! 

 Pangong Exploration:The distance you have to cover from Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake is 220 kilometres. It takes almost 8-10 hours approximately. 

It is one of the under-explored regions of Ladakh and it is nothing like the ones you have seen till now. It is very challenging and involves extra efforts. 

The Wari La route starts from Diskit village of Nubra Valley. From there you have to drive till Khalsar. As you have crossed Khalsar, the next mid-destination would be Agham village. In Agham, you are at a crossroads, the one taking you to Shyok village is on the right. That must be your choice. 

After driving for some time, you will begin your ascent to Wari La Pass, one of the lesser-known yet stunning high-altitude passes in Ladakh, situated at an elevation of 17,400 ft. As you descend, you’ll pass through the quaint village of Tathok, with the route concluding at Shakti village. Once past the village, you’ll find yourself on the Pangong road, ready to cross another iconic pass in Ladakh, Chang La. From here, it’s a smooth and scenic ride to the breathtaking Pangong Lake.

When you reach Pangong Lake, you will feel immense tranquillity. It is one of the highest saltwater lakes of India, situated at an altitude of 4.350 ft. The lake is there with its blue waters attracting people from all over the beauty. Its beauty has been featured in many bollywood movies like the super-hit “3-idiots”, “Jab tak hai Jaan” and others. Well, pictures can never do justice with its charm. You need to reach there to soak it all in. On reaching there, you can take slow walks along the shore, clicking pictures, camping under the stars and stargazing.

Night Stay in Pangong. 

Departure: 

On the last day of the Leh Ladakh itinerary 5 days, drive back to Srinagar from Pangong Lake. By late afternoon, you will be in the capital city again. Make sure to book a night flight to make it in time at the airport.

Essential tips to keep in mind before visiting Leh Ladakh

  • Pack clothes according to the season of the trip. If you visit Leh Ladakh in summer, keep plenty of cotton clothes such as breathable t-shirts, shirts, jeans, trousers, skirts, dresses, etc. Carry a couple of cardigans and a sweater for cooler nights. 
  • Book hotels, taxis and sightseeing tours in advance especially if you are planning the voyage to Ladakh in the peak season. Everything is pre-booked. Hence, waiting for on-spot booking can lead to unnecessary hustle. 
  • Carry other essentials like snacks, water bottle, first-aid box, visual ID proof, permits, passport size photos, etc.
